Marshall deliver a LEAPP in Shelters

Command Shelters for UK Armed Forces New Air Defence System Delivered Ahead of Programm

Cambridge, 22nd April 2009; The UK's Armed Forces next generation of air situational awareness systems are being housed in shelters designed and produced by Marshall Specialist Vehicles (MSV), part of Cambridge based Marshall Land Systems, following the hand over of the final shelter for the programme to the main contractor Lockheed Martin - UK INSYS and the DE&S represented by the Joint Sensors and Engagement Networks (JSENS) Delivery Team (DT).

The system, known as the Land Environment Air Picture Provision or LEAPP, will provide ground forces with significantly enhanced situational awareness. It provides commanders with "decision-quality" near real-time data which they can use to co-ordinate, plan and control missions effectively.

The core processing and display capability is housed in the shelters which have been designed and manufactured by MSV. These shelters will be carried on the back of the Ministry of Defence's new Support Vehicles whose load beds have been designed and produced by sister company Marshall Vehicle Engineering.

"The relationship between Lockheed Martin and Marshall SV has been a model of co-operation between a prime contractor and the supply network" said Mick Halloran, C4ISTAR Director at Lockheed Martin UK - INSYS, "we have been delighted with the quality of the work, the way that Marshall have responded to changes and their commitment to delivering ahead of contract."

"Our experience of designing protected workspaces, which has been developed over many years, has enabled us to develop a quality solution which we are proud to hand over for use by Britain's Armed Forces," said Peter Callaghan, Chief Executive of Marshall Land Systems.

The first shelter in the programme was delivered at the end of January and the final one was handed over in April. Based on standard ISO container base dimensions, the shelter has had its height modified to enable the complete vehicle to fit under bridges.
