British Forces to get new Deployable Machine Shop
Cambridge, 26th November 2008; The British Forces are to get new field machine shops from Cambridge based Marshall Specialist Vehicles (MSV) following the award of a development and production contract from the Ministry of Defence.
Over forty Deployable Machine Shops (DMS) are to be supplied during 2009 by MSV to be used by Royal Marines, REME, Royal Engineer and Royal Air Force mechanical and electrical engineers. The units, which are based on a standard 20 ft DROPS compatible ISO container, will be deployed wherever engineering support is required.
"I am delighted that we have won this contract as it proves again that the effort that all members of the company put into understanding customer needs is worth the effort. We spent considerable time understanding not just the top level requirement but all the ergonomics of the layout of the DMS in order to make them efficient places to work" said Peter Callaghan, Chief Executive of MSV.
"Part of our success has also come from our understanding of shelter based deployable systems and the experience we have gained over recent years in building similar types of solution including a powerpack testing facility." he added.
The DMS will enable the engineers to carryout front line support milling, turning and finishing mechanical parts and provide space for basic testing and repair of electrical equipment and servicing of much of the complex equipment now in service.
The units have been designed for easy deployment by road, rail, air (by C-130), or sea to wherever they are required in the world.
The DMS are designed to operate to their full range of capability alongside other vehicles and electronic equipment without causing, or being effected by, electrical interference.
